Scholarships and awards at Ballarat

Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Ballarat Campus recently held the 2010 Scholarship and Awards Ceremony to congratulate the 23 recipients and acknowledge the generosity of the donors.

The George Alexander Foundation Scholarship recipient James Scott, who is completing a Bachelor of Nursing / Paramedicine, said the scholarships were a huge help for those who had to move away from home to attend university.

“The financial assistance that the foundation provides enables rural students to succeed in their studies without burdensome financial pressures,” he said. “Receiving this scholarship has meant that many things are now possible for me.”

Fellow recipient Naomi White is in her first year of the Bachelor of Nursing / Paramedicine, and also said the scholarship would be a huge help.

“Without the scholarship, life would be a lot more difficult,” she said. “It has allowed me the time to join a hockey club and create a sense of community and belonging in my new hometown.”

Other awards presented at the ceremony were sponsored by St John of God Health Care, Ballarat South Rotary Club, Ballarat Diocesan Schools Board, Diocese of Sandhurst and the Michael Myers Scholarship Fund.
