Blessing of the Pilgrims by Cardinal George Pell
On Monday 11 October the contingent of ACU student and staff travelling to Rome for the canonisation of Mary MacKillop, who performed a production of MacKillop's life in a vigil concert and also sang with the Vatican choir, gathered together at Mary MacKillop chapel for the blessing of the pilgrims by Cardinal George Pell.
Eager and excited about the journey ahead, the group proudly wore their uniform of bright red jackets and waved several ACU flags. The mass began with the playing of the didgeridoo by Elwyn Henaway, an indigenous University representative who performed as part of an indigenous exhibition at the Vatican Museum while in Rome. The choir also displayed their talent by singing a beautiful hymn written about Mary MacKillop.
Cardinal Pell spoke of the importance of the canonisation of Mary MacKillop, blessing the contingent and wished them all safe travel. Each member of the group received pilgrimage cross with a book on the history of Mary MacKillop journey.
