ACU at the Commonwealth Games
Exercise Science student and gymnast, Ashleigh Brennan
Three Australian Catholic University (ACU) students and a recent graduate are heading off to India to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Twenty-one-year-old Grant Nel, one of Australia’s top male divers, will be competing in the one and three-springboard as well as the three-springboard synchro. Grant has recently been studying at Texas A & M University to further his career while competing in the NCAA Championships.
Sarah Katsoulis, 26, is a member of Australia’s ‘hot favourite’ swimming team and will be competing in the breaststroke events where she is the current Commonwealth Record-Holder at 50 metres.
Ashleigh Brennan, 19, has already achieved a rare feat by returning to top level of competition after taking a year’s break for study following her role in Australia’s best-ever Olympic performance in women’s gymnastics at Beijing. She will enter the competition fighting for gold as one of Australia’s most experienced competitive gymnasts.
Sarah, Grant and Ashleigh are all current members of the School of Exercise Science. Through the Elite Athlete Program, they have been able to keep up with their study while they compete. Recent Bachelor of Nursing graduate, Rachel Lynch, will also be joining them in Delhi as a member of the Hockeyroos.
On behalf of the ACU community, we congratulate Ashleigh, Grant, Rachel and Sarah on their achievements to date and wish them the best of luck for their respective competitions.
