The Call to Arms at Uni Games
More than 150 Australian Catholic University (ACU) students from all six campuses participated in the Regional University Games held around the country last week.
ACU students sported a splash of yellow during the games.
The lawn bowls team dominated at the northern games in Toowoomba, taking home the gold medal.
At the eastern games in Coffs Harbour, ACU students took out silver in the men’s touch and bronze in ten pin bowling.
In Bendigo for the southern games, the ACU team won both silver and bronze in the lawn bowls competition.
ACU students also sported a splash of yellow during the games in support of the Cancer Council’s ‘Call to Arms’ campaign.
Campus Life Coordinator (Sport and National Projects) Mark Young, said the ACU team performed exceptionally well.
“Our teams demonstrated great sportsmanship and fierce competitiveness, with strong performances across all three regional events,” he said. “Wearing yellow was a new community initiative for our teams and we are very proud of our students for getting behind this great cause.”
“These events take months of preparation and without the support of ACUNSA, the Sport Convenors and Campus Life staff these results would not be possible. In particular, I would like to congratulate our individual sport and team managers - Mitchell Bennett, Pat Mackey and Brendan Davey - who led our squad with such professionalism.”
The Australian University Games will be held from 26 September – 1 October. For more information visit www.acu.edu.au/aug
