Exhibition explores contemporary images of the Cross

An exhibition exploring contemporary images of the Cross opened recently at Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Melbourne Campus.

The Crux exhibition features works of art by more than 35 contemporary artists from Australia and overseas, brought together by curator Lachlan Warner.

“From my experience as an exhibitor and judge of the Blake Prize for Religious Art, I saw that there were a number of artists in Australia who were exploring possibilities with the image of the Cross,” he said. “With the help of Rev Doug Purnell of St Ives Uniting Church in Sydney, and Stephanie Lewis of the Blake Society, I have brought together these artists for an inspiring and innovative exhibition.”

Contemporary images of the Cross, such as this by artist Greg Warburton, will feature in the Crux exhibition.

A small booklet of meditations on the cross by theologians from ACU will also be available at the exhibition.
The Crux exhibition will be on show at the ACU Gallery, 26 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, until Friday 12 February 2010.
