Paramedicine student receives top honour
A paramedicine student from ACU's Ballarat Campus was recently recognised for his outstanding contribution to student life, paramedicine and the community.
Owen Peak, second year Bachelor of Nursing/Paramedicine student, was awarded the inaugural Dave Dandy Prize by the Ambulance Employee Association Victoria.
The prize is in honour of Dave Dandy, who was a paramedic for more than 35 years, a Fire Officer with the CFA and a key architect of the Community Emergency Response Teams in Blackwood and Trentham.
Owen, who received the award for his contribution to the Paraquinas student association and support of his peers, said it was a great incentive for students to develop both personally and professionally.
"I don't feel that my efforts with Paraquinas deserve such high praise but I am extremely thankful to the Ambulance Employee Association Victoria for their recognition," he said.
Citations were also awarded to Owen's fellow students Belinda Edwards, Danielle Dykstra, Jessica Cannane, Nicole Goyne and Chris Jeffers for their contribution to student life at ACU's Ballarat Campus.
