New reference book for religious studies
A new reference book, The Encyclopaedia of Religion in Australia, published by Cambridge University Press, features works by two of ACU's Faculty of Arts and Sciences lecturers - Professor Shurlee Swain and Professor Malcolm Prentis.
History lecturer at the Melbourne Campus, Professor Swain, contributed the article Welfare Work and Charitable Organisations. Professor Prentis, history lecturer at the Strathfield Campus, contributed the articles Presbyterians in Australia and The Reformed Churches.
Professor Prentis said his contributions were part of the A-Z encyclopaedic coverage of all religious groups.
"My first article essentially deals with Presbyterians and their involvement in Australian life from 1901 up to the formation of the Uniting Church in 1977," he said. "The second article, The Reformed Churches, concentrates on post World War II immigrants who formed these churches. It also notes that most of them joined mainstream Australian denominations, predominately the Presbyterian Church and later the Uniting Churches."
The book retails for $165 and can be purchased at most bookstores.
