Centacare awards outstanding ACU student
Canberra Campus (Signadou) student, Stephanie Pollard, was recently awarded the annual Centacare Award for Excellence in Social Work.
The award recognises the academic excellence in both course work and field work experience of a social work student at the University.
Stephanie is in her final year of the dual Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Social Work degree coordinated through ACU and the Australian National University (ANU).
Stephanie’s decision to enrol in a social work degree was driven by what she refers to as the “burning desire to see a change in society”.
“I have always believed that there are some professions you do not simply fall into. Rather than a career, such professions are often viewed by practitioners as a vocation, or a calling. I believe social work is one such profession,” Stephanie said.
She is currently completing a thesis as part of ACU’s honours program, which focuses on the place of spirituality and the search for meaning within palliative care.
“Upon completing my study, I hope to contribute to and help to advance the quality of life for individuals and groups within society,” Stephanie said.
