Consistent with its Mission and values, ACU is committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing and dignity of children and vulnerable adults.
A reminder for everyone who works with children or vulnerable adults about their responsibilities under the University’s Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedures, and as a holder of a Working with Children Check (or equivalent).
Working with Children Checks
There have been some changes to the laws around the Working with Children Check. Whilst the legislative changes apply in NSW only, the changes are a reminder for everyone with a Working with Children Check (NSW and Victoria), Working with Vulnerable People Registration (ACT) or Blue Card (QLD) (or equivalent from other jurisdiction) of their responsibilities to the relevant State/Territory statutory agency and the University (if the Check is required by ACU).
As a Working with Children Check holder you are responsible to ensure that:
The relevant State/ Territory statutory agency has your current contact details. If you hold a NSW Working with Children Check you are now legally required to update your contact details (including any name or address changes) within three months – just like your driver’s licence. Penalties will apply if you do not update these details.
Your Working with Children Check is current (ie the expiry date has not passed) while you continue to work with children (vulnerable people in the ACT). You must renew your Working with Children Check well before the expiry date has passed (eg in NSW renewal must occur no later than three months before expiry).
When a Working with Children Check is required for your ACU employment
If your role at ACU requires you to have a Working with Children Check, please ensure that:
ACU has details of your current Working with Children Check. Your Working with Children Check details can be found in Staff Connect by clicking on ‘Employee’ on the top navigation bar, then selecting ‘HR Profile>Licences’. Your Working with Children Check expiry date will be listed here. If your Working with Children Check information is not there, please email a copy of your Working with Children Check to HR@acu.edu.au as a priority.
Your Working with Children Check applies to you as an employee or paid worker. If not then please update your Working with Children Check in accordance with the requirements of the relevant statutory agency. Once you receive your new Working with Children Check please email a copy of it to HR@acu.edu.au as a priority.
