When ancient Greek women took control
Published: Monday 12th October 2015
There will be a free performance on the Melbourne Campus from Ancient Greek Drama and History students of Lysistrate, a play about the feminist movement in ancient Greece. It will be held at 6.15pm, Wednesday, 21 October, on the Ground Floor of the Daniel Mannix Building.
Fed up with the Peloponnesian War, Lysistrata and the women of Athens and beyond take drastic measures to secure peace.
Barricading themselves in the Acropolis, they deny their men any pleasure and affection until the men agree to their demands for the end of the war…
Will the men have their way? Or will feminine power prevail?
