Volunteers for Grounding the Sacred conference

The Grounding the Sacred conference on 23-26 July at the Strathfield campus is calling for volunteers. The conference will feature a mix of keynote addresses, conference papers, performances and exhibitions revolving around the question, 'How can literature and the arts make the sacred tangible?' There will be a volunteer’s meeting at 4pm on Tuesday, 21 July in the Atrium (outside Gleeson).

The conference is presented by The Sacred in Literature and the Arts (SLA), a community of interest that brings Australian and international writers, artists, musicians, academics, religious and members of the general public together to explore the interplay between the arts and the sacred. The

The 2015 conference is being organised in conjunction with members of the Religion and Creativity project in the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry at ACU. Guest speakers will include David Jasper from Glasgow University, Thaddeus Metz from the University of Johannesburg, poet and philosopher Kevin Hart, Australian writers Carmel Bird, Michael McGirr and David Malouf, and recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey. Kathleen Deignan, Director of the Iona Spirituality Institute and the Merton Contemplative Initiative will appear via Skype.

There will also be a pre-conference meeting for postgraduates from around Australia on the afternoon of Thursday 23 July 2015 in the McGlade Gallery on the Strathfield Campus, with Professors Hart, Jasper and Metz and Dr Alison Jasper (University of Stirling).
