Scholarships: Making a difference

Published: Wednesday 25th February 2015

In 2014 we published a story that profiled the most recent recipients of ACU’s scholarships and bursaries. Common across each of these stories is the impact these individuals have, not only within the University, but in many cases, on their wider communities also.

Our scholarships and bursaries program reward students’ community engagement, recognise their academic achievement and assist with university expenses.

Beyond the individual impact on the recipients themselves, there is a genuine desire to "pay it forward". Recipient of the George Alexander Foundation Scholarship, Jessie Dixon said, "I want to become a peer leader; to help first year students transition from secondary school to university, and hopefully they can learn from my experience."

Help spread the word

What can you do to ensure other eligible students are given the opportunity under ACU’s scholarships and bursaries program?

Here are five actions you can take to help spread the word:

  1. Email your students directly.
  2. Make an announcement during a lecture.
  3. Promote the scholarships and bursaries to course coordinators.
  4. Include scholarship and bursary details on LEO.
  5. Verbally encourage students to apply or to finish incomplete applications.

We encourage students to apply for as many scholarships and bursaries that they are eligible for. With your assistance promoting the program, we hope to provide financial support for deserving students across all of ACU’s campuses. Every year there are low applicant numbers, so students have a good chance of receiving the financial assistance if they fit the criteria and apply.

Main applications close Sunday 8 March 2015.
