LSIA launches new measure of preservice teachers’ professional readiness

In 2017, LSIA developed and trialled a new assessment of beginning teacher’s competence in classroom practice. The large-scale Trial of the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA) involved 13 universities working closely with the Institute and other partners. The Trial was completed successfully in 2017.
The GTPA is the first Teacher Performance Assessment to receive endorsement by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership for implementation by Australian Higher Education Institutions, consistent with conditions established LSIA.
Building on this foundation, the Institute is working with partner universities across the country in implementing this new measure. The implementation will provide critical evidence to show the quality and impact of initial teacher education programs in Australia.
