LSIA Dialogue Series
Published: Monday 17th August 2015
The Learning Sciences Institute Australia (LSIA) and the Institute of Child Protection studies (ICPS) are pleased to invite you to Being safe, feeling safe: Children’s perceptions and experiences of safety within institutional contexts presented by ICPS Senior Research Fellow Dr Tim Moore and LSIA Program Director and ICPS Director Professor Morag McArthur at the Melbourne Campus at 5pm on 25 August.
In 2014, the Institute of Child Protection Studies conducted focus groups with 121 children and young people in institutions across Australia, as part of a study for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The study explored what children need to be safe and how well they believe institutions respond to their safety needs. This presentation reports on the findings (removed emerging) from these focus groups and the implications for service delivery.
It draws on children’s own insights about how they might be best protected and how they would like to be supported by institutions when they are unsafe.
When: 5pm-6.30pm, Tuesday, 25 August
Where: ACU St Patrick’s Campus, Melbourne, Christ Lecture Theatre, 17-29 Cnr Duke St and Young St, Fitzroy (access via Victoria Parade)
