Recently we’ve noticed a trend at ACU. What begin as all-staff donation drives organically spread beyond our staff to our students and even the greater community.
During the Personal Hygiene Products collection in May, Rebecca Lane (Deputy Head of School, School of Physiotherapy) spoke with her students about the drive. The students then collected an unbelievable amount of items of their own volition.
In Ballarat we have a story of one woman who heard on the grapevine through a friend of a friend that ACU was conducting a Personal Hygiene Drive. She took it upon herself to put together little bags with shampoo, conditioner, soap, combs and other items and deliver them to ACU. She was motivated to support this worthwhile cause and empowered by being able to do so through ACU.
During our Winter Woollies appeal in June, Rebecca Riley (Accommodation Coordinator at the Miguel Cordero Residence in Camperdown NSW) coordinated efforts for the Residential Advisor team to support the drive with their own collection point. Staff and students came together to donate and expressed a strong desire to be involved in future activities and initiatives which serve their peers and their communities.
These are just some of the stories we know of and we are sure there are lots more out there. We wanted to take the opportunity to share these stories and recognise the generosity and dedication of the ACU community and the ripple effect that this is having on the broader community. We are motivated by these stories and proud to support a culture of impact through empathy.
