The numbers are in and a whopping 4615 items have been donated across our campuses! Shout out to Ballarat campus, with an average of two items donated per staff member making them our most generous campus, followed by Melbourne and Canberra.
A special thank you to the ACU Community Impact Network for driving the initiative and to the campus donation champions who generously offered their time to coordinate additional donation locations.

Partnering with United Housing Co-operative to Explore Social Support
United Housing Co-operative (UHC) provides low-to-moderate income earners with secure and affordable housing. Residents of the co-operative are automatically members of UHC. UHC takes a different approach to traditional community housing by encouraging members to form social connections with each other and participate in member programs (Annual Report, 2017).
Julia Martz, a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Honours) student, is working with UHC to explore members’ perceptions of the community-focused culture. She is being supervised by Prof Sandra Jones, Dr. Joel Anderson and Dr. Vivian Romero.
Through interviews, UHC members will be asked about their lives as members of UHC and their experiences of friendship, opportunities and learnings whilst living in secure and affordable housing. Interviews will take place in July. Findings from this research will help UHC strengthen its operations and facilitate the needs of its members.
Blessing of the ACU Engagement Melbourne Office
ACU Engagement's Melbourne office was blessed on Thursday by Monsignor Greg Bennet, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. We were delighted to have so many of our colleagues, students and partners there to share the moment with us. A special thank you to Pro Chancellor Julien O'Connell, AVC Melbourne Dr John Ballard, and the amazing team from Campus Ministry.
Come help Brisbane Campus Flourish on 21 July
The Flourish Gardens project at ACU’s Brisbane Campus is aimed at building a new sensory garden, bird and butterfly garden, and also linking existing gardens via a walk that takes in the views, history, and beauty of the Brisbane Campus. The gardens and walk will articulate with the Banyo community via the Brisbane City Council 10,000 steps campaign and the Flourish project will open the campus to the community like never before. Both the new gardens and walk are envisaged as resources that can support health interventions for the community, and also our staff and students.
Led by Chris Gill, State Development Manager (QLD), the Flourish project receives financial and/or logistical support from project partners involved with the construction of new buildings at the Brisbane Campus such as Buildcorp, Broad Construction, Design Worldwide Partnership (DWP), Gleeds, and Donald Cant Watts Corke. Rotary International have also secured a grant for 300 trees which will support the new bird and butterfly garden. Flourish is also registered with Land for Wildlife in working to conserve the local fauna the campus is blessed with.
Saturday 21 July is shaping up as a big day for the Flourish team, as after months of careful planning, we will be holding a ‘planting day’. On this day the new gardens will be constructed, 300 trees planted, and other activities provided – such as a sausage sizzle and journeying the new Flourish walk that takes in the best the Brisbane Campus has to offer.
However, this day cannot happen without your support! We invite you to lend a hand and be a part of building resources that will serve the health and wellbeing of the campus and community for years to come. Please come and join in the fun on 21 July 21.

Meet Daniel Ognenovski
Hi! My name is Daniel Ognenovski and I am an administrative assistant for the Community Engagement team at ACU. I am based at the Strathfield campus and work part-time. Being part of the Community Engagement team is very exciting for me because it is refreshing to see work being done that gives back to, and helps, the wider community.
I have worked at AskACU since 2015 and am still currently in the role during the days that I have free. Working at AskACU has provided me with administrative skills that I can transfer to this role. More so though, my time working with the ACU community has allowed me to see what a warm and welcoming place it is. I hope to continue that warm atmosphere and be part of the community initiatives which the ACU Engagement team coordinate.
