This month I will be overseas visiting our partner institutions in various countries. I look forward to sharing the news of my trip with you when I return. In the meantime, there are several news items and events happening in the OVC this month.
Anniversary of the canonisation of Saint Mary MacKillop
On October 17 we celebrated the anniversary of the canonisation of Saint Mary MacKillop. Four years ago on this date Mary MacKillop was proclaimed a saint by Pope Benedict XVI at St Peter's Basilica in Rome. Staff and students from ACU were among the thousands of Australian pilgrims in Italy for the celebrations, and contributed to both the lead up events and the canonisation mass itself.
The Office of the Vice-Chancellor arranged for the yearly white flower display to be placed around the statue of Mary MacKillop at the North Sydney Campus.
We are in the process of finalising design on the new Australian Catholic University flag, which will be unveiled shortly. The flag will reflect our history, traditions, beliefs and associations; and will be flown at all campuses. A policy outlining which flags should be flown when and where will also distributed. Please key an eye on the Bulletin for further information.
Next month I will be visiting each of the ACU campuses for the second round of staff talks, followed by afternoon tea. The staff talks are a great opportunity for you to ask questions or raise any concerns you may have, and I encourage you all to attend. Please keep an eye on the Bulletin for more information on dates, times and locations.
Australian Academy of Law
I was very proud to be notified that I have been accepted as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. This puts me in some very esteemed company indeed. I am honoured to have been appointed, and look forward to working with the Academy.
