A message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Learning and Teaching) Professor Anne Cummins:
As we conclude week six of Semester One this year, marking the halfway point for students, I want to bring your attention to some of the projects taking place within the Students, Learning and Teaching portfolio.
Lecture Capture is undergoing a significant upgrade with the university-wide implementation of the new Echo360 Active Learning Platform (Echo360ALP). In collaboration with IT, the Learning for Life team has:
Replaced the old lecture capture system (Echo360) with the upgraded Echo360 Active Learning Platform (Echo360 ALP)
Equipped an additional 400 learning spaces with lecture capture capabilities (hardware and software) across the campuses
So far approximately 300 learning and teaching spaces across the Brisbane, Melbourne and North Sydney campuses have been equipped with lecture capture solutions. The enhancement of the Lecture Capture System at ACU will improve and enhance both the learning and teaching experiences by providing the following:
Benefits to Academics
Benefits to Students
Improved lecture content and delivery by being able to monitor learning analytics for each of the lectures
Analytics for monitoring student academic performance, attendance and engagement
Live Stream capabilities, allowing for consistency in the delivery of lectures across the different campuses
An increased sense of community between students by being able to share notes among themselves
Being able to watch a lecture via live stream
I am pleased to announce that stage one of the two stage renovation of the Camillus Residence in Ballarat was completed at the beginning of the year and we have welcomed a cohort of first year students into the brand new facilities. Camillus Residence is located four km from our campus in Ballarat and has 82 bedrooms in 16 fully-furnished houses with all the mod-cons including free parking, tennis court and a recreation room with TV, pool table and foosball.
On the same note, I’m also pleased to inform you that Miguel Cordero Residence situated in Camperdown, an inner city suburb of Sydney, is at 98% occupancy this semester.
Located midway between ACU’s two Sydney campuses, the student accommodation services both the North Sydney and Strathfield students. It is close to all the action for our students; close to public transport, cafes, bars, eateries and popular neighborhoods such as Newtown and Broadway.
Our residences are more that than just a place to eat and sleep – they are Living and Learning Communities, providing students with free events and the support to meet new people and excel at university.
Student Engagement Conference 2017
Keep an eye on ACU Staff website for more information. For now, ‘Save the date’ - the conference will be held on 14 July 2017 at Stamford Plaza, Sydney.
I would like to thank all staff across the University and our external partners who have made the advances I have outlined possible.
Next week, as we head into Easter which is a celebration of new life, let’s take the time to enjoy the season and also reflect on these achievements for our students which are a testament to renewal and new life.
With every good wish
Professor Anne Cummins Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Learning & Teaching)
