Professional Experience Services (PES) teams in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) put their commitment to service excellence into action across all ACU campuses at the start of Semester 1. Placement Services staff from PES left the office to take the message about their services to students.
Placement Services staff at all campuses met with students during information sessions and in classes, introducing themselves, the role Placement Services plays and the things students need to do before starting placements.
There were two added bonuses for Brisbane students. In a great new initiative, Placement Services staff were conspicuous at the market stalls on campus, signing students’ Working with Children / Blue Card application forms and answering their queries. Second, the Medical Centre’s Registered Nurse, Sally Synnott, spoke with students about the importance of immunisations and how the ACU Medical Centre can help students get the vaccinations they need prior to completing their placements.
Uniform try-on days
As one of the first major initiatives under ACU’s Service Matters Framework, in 2014 PES worked with ACU Finance and Procurement to develop and put to tender a single, comprehensive supply contract for FHS student uniforms. As a result, Andrews Corporate Clothing has been the sole provider of FHS uniforms since 2015. Students across all campuses buy direct from the supplier and pay a standard price, saving time and money.
Complementing the convenient online ordering service, Andrews travelled to all ACU campuses during Orientation Week to give students the opportunity to ‘try before they buy ’. This year’s FHS uniform try-on days were a huge success! The Brisbane session was especially well attended, with over 800 Health Sciences students trying on their uniforms. Other campuses hosted equally successful sessions: Sydney had a very busy two days (with some items selling out), while Melbourne, Ballarat and Canberra also enjoyed very popular days.
Just as importantly, the days were also a success for our supply partner, Andrews. A spokesperson said: “These were the busiest ACU fitting days to date. The sessions were extremely well-coordinated by each Placement Services office.“
This highly successful national event is a great example of PES’s commitment to delivering nationally consistent services that are accessible, adaptable and tailored to the diverse needs of our stakeholders.
