Quality leadership and management are essential components for engaging and empowering our staff to create a culture of performance excellence at ACU.   The University invests in its people through offering a number of professional development opportunities that build on skills and enhance career opportunities.  

Leadership at ACU

Leadership Competency Framework (LCF)
The LCF is the go-to toolkit which supports all managers and supervisors in bringing the strategic direction of the University to life.  Learn more about LCF workshops which run throughout the year and the suite of resources which explore the key tenets of the LCF and how they are put into practice.

Opportunities for Managers and Supervisors

  • Management Essentials @ ACU
    These in-house workshops and videoconferences build on skills such as: managing change, recruiting, giving effective feedback, holding Performance Review and Planning (PRP) conversations, managing performance issues and preparing for Academic Promotion.
  • Leadership & Accountability of the Supervisors Program
    This will be a new in-house program for 2015. The program will assist supervisors to understand the context of their role at ACU and the expectations and responsibilities of undertaking this important role.
  • Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (GCHE)
    The GCHE is a qualification for university teaching, offered by ACU's Learning and Teaching Centre. The GCHE promotes the scholarship of learning and teaching in higher education through evidence-based practice.
  • Certificate IV Frontline Management Scholarship
    A Certificate IV scholarship program is designed to develop leadership and management competencies.  This 18-month program is run by TAFE.
  • eLAMP Scholarship
    The Emerging Leaders and Managers Program (eLAMP) is offered by ACU and the LH Martin Institute to support new and aspiring leaders in developing their skills to manage confidently and effectively.  
  • Learning and Teaching Conference
    This one-day conference is open to all staff responsible for learning and teaching at ACU.  The last conference in July 2014 launched ACU’s four-year teaching framework called ‘Learning for Life’.
  • External Professional Development
    There are also a number of programs run externally by the Association for Tertiary Education Management (ATEM), the LH Martin Institute and Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) throughout the year.

Opportunities for Senior Managers

  • Leading and Managing in the ACU Context
    This one-day conference is for Professional and Academic leaders in senior positions and participation is by invitation. The 2014 conference was held at North Sydney and Brisbane venues in August and explored the theme of ‘The Excellence Agenda’. 
  • Masters of Tertiary Education Management Scholarship (Office of the Vice-Chancellor)
    The Master of Tertiary Education Management (MTEM) is a two-year, part time program for senior managers in tertiary education which is offered through the LH Martin Institute.
  • Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Catholic Culture
    The ACU Directorate of Identity and Mission sponsors scholarships to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Catholic Culture.  The Graduate Certificate explores what true leadership means in a Catholic context and encourages participants to develop a deeper understanding of Catholic identity, ethos and mission and its integration in modern organisations.
