Looking after your wellbeing is a year-round job.  Do you have a plan that will help you through challenging times, and help you to feel at your best?
Know yourself

Do you know what situations challenge your sense of wellbeing?  Think about your stress triggers and how you might be able to best equip yourself to meet challenges when they arise.

ACU staff who would like explore techniques to support ongoing wellbeing, can register for a Holistic Wellbeing workshop on their campus in November and to make a personal wellbeing plan. This three-hour workshop explores physical wellbeing as well as psychological and emotional wellbeing

Having a proactive plan may help you to ward off stress before it catches up with you.   For example if the busyness of the summer holiday season tends to stress you out, why not be proactive and book in for the Laugh More, Stress Less workshop at the start of December through ATEM?  Renowned comedian, speaker and laughter expert Anthony Ackroyd shows you why the physical, emotional and mental benefits of laughter are the ultimate antidote to the effects of stress. Anthony presents skills and strategies that enable you to diffuse your stress levels and those of others.

Upskill or download

Support your sense of work/life balance by learning practical techniques to enhance your resilience.  Register for a video conference on November 11 which will use a mix of interaction, exercises and information to help you build strategies for enhanced resilience and stress management.  The session will be presented by professional counsellors from ACCESS EAP, the University’s Employee Assistance Program provider.

If you feel you could benefit from time-management tips, log on to Lynda online training library which ACU have free access to at http://lynda.acu.edu.au/.  The videos are segmented into chapters so you can pick up handy tips even if you only have 10 minutes to spare!  Topics include Ten Top Apps for Productivity, and Time-Management Fundamentals.

ACU staff can also access a range of general wellbeing resources, including downloadable relaxation and mindfulness meditations, in the Client Area of the AccessEAP website by taking a few seconds to create an employee login using your ACU email address.

Take a break

The working world revolves around planning, timelines and strategies, but have you planned ahead for times of rest and relaxation?  Have you planned to give yourself a holiday during the year by taking some annual leave?  Regular breaks from work have been shown to increase a personal sense of wellbeing, and research suggests that periods of rest and relaxation boost creativity and productivity upon your return to work.  Don’t forget that ACU staff can access a range of discounts for personal travel and accommodation!
