Thanks for Open Day success
Published: Wednesday 2nd September 2015
Message from Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Learning and Teaching) Professor Anne Cummins: Over the last month staff members from all our campuses have been collaborating to deliver highly successful and engaging Open Days.
The Ballarat, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra Open Days have been huge successes, with record numbers of visitors. This sets a great precedent for the North Sydney (5 September) and Strathfield (12 September) Open Days that are still to come.
I would like to thank and congratulate all who have been involved in the preparation and delivery of our Open Days. Major events like these require a great dedication of time, effort and enthusiasm from all corners of the University.
September brings the commencement of the 2016 Student Election period. Student nominations are now open for the positions of Student Senator, President of ACUNSA and Office Holders for the Campus Student Association management committees.
Student leadership provides our students with an opportunity for service, enhances their graduate attributes and enables them to demonstrate skills and attitudes that will make them more competitive in selection for employment.
Student leaders partner with university staff and leaders in ensuring the vitality and dynamism of the ACU community and student experience. These roles provide an opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the development of ACU.
Senate has made some recent changes to the student leadership roles and responsibilities. The roles of Student Senator and ACUNSA President have been separated. In 2016, the Student Senator will continue to be on Academic Board, and as Senator is a director of the company Australian Catholic University Limited.
The Student Senator is not required to be a member of a Campus Student Association. All students currently undertaking at least one course of study at ACU are eligible to nominate candidates, be nominated for office and to vote for the position of Student member of Senate. Postgraduate and Undergraduate students are invited to nominate.
The President of ACUNSA will now be a stand-alone role. All members of Campus Student Associations are eligible to nominate candidates, be nominated for office and to vote for the President of ACUNSA position. ACUNSA is a committee of students comprising the Presidents of each Campus Student Association and the ACUNSA President.
Please help raise awareness of the student elections and encourage students to consider nominating themselves.
With every good wish.
