Are you a researcher with a burning desire to share your work with a wider audience? Now you have your chance. This October, ACU will hold the Five Minute Research Pitch (5RP) heats – an exciting opportunity for researchers to win $7000 towards their research and showcase their work to a national audience.
5RP is open to all active proven researchers at Levels A, B and C.
Competitors will have just five minutes, and three powerpoint slides, to present their current research in a way that is easily understood by a non-academic audience.
According to Professor Patrick Heaven, Dean of Research, 5RP is an excellent opportunity for researchers to make their voices heard.
“5RP is a researcher’s elevator pitch,” he says. “Taking part will encourage you to think differently and to present your research in a snappy, interesting, easily understood way.”
Professor Heaven said that many Early Career Researchers would find the experience extremely useful.
“It’s a great opportunity to develop your presentation skills and get experience of speaking to different audiences about your work. This is invaluable experience for the rest of your academic career.”
Last year, ACU’s Dr Michael P. Theophilos triumphed at the national final with his winning presentation Oxyrhynchus: Recovering Lost Manuscripts from the Ancient World.
The initial heats will be held throughout October as follows:
·Melbourne: Monday 12 October , 2:30pm to 4:00pm, Room 4.28 , Level 4, 250 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne
North Sydney: Wednesday 14 October , 9:30am to 11:30am, Council Room, Level 11, Tenison Woods House, 8-20 Napier Street, North Sydney
Brisbane: Thursday 29 October, 10:30am to 12:30pm, Room TC.19, Pope John Paul II Building (T Block) Brisbane campus
There will be two groupings for the initial heats – Science and Health and Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
The first and second place winner of each group will then go on to the national finals which will be held at ACU on Monday 16 November from 2 – 5 pm. The heat winners will also win $1000 towards their research.
The heat winners will be joined at the national final by researchers from the other participating 5RP universities; Edith Cowan University, Federation University, Southern Cross University, Victoria University, University of Southern Queensland and the University of Central Queensland.
