Scholarships and Awards season in full swing
Published: Monday 16th May 2016
All staff are invited to join the ACU Foundation and faculties at the upcoming scholarships and awards ceremonies this week and next at North Sydney, Strathfield, Canberra and Brisbane.
These events follow successful ceremonies in Ballarat and Melbourne earlier this month.
Associate Professor Joe Fleming kicked off our national annual scholarships and awards ceremonies two weeks ago in Ballarat with a touch of his trademark humour. Scholarships and Awards recognise the many and varied talents of our student base and the important contribution of the local organisations and donors who support the university through the ACU Foundation and faculties.
In Ballarat the comradery and mutual respect between students and staff was clear throughout the ceremony. When Associate Professor Helen Webb was called to present the Helen Webb Paramedicine Prize and Citations and Professor Fleming proudly informed the audience of Professor Webb’s recent honours for teaching excellence, there was a clear nod of agreement and support from students.
At St Patrick’s campus last Thursday evening Professor Therese Joiner, Executive Dean of Law and Business, did a great job of MC’ing for the evening. The event was a full house, with many family and friends there to support the deserving recipients.
The student vote of thanks, given by the Gill Family Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary recipient, Kalina Brown, told a compelling story and showed the calibre of the award recipients, with Kalina describing how she was motivated to work in the health field having seen the impacts on health in the Aboriginal community first-hand and how she planned to use the money she received from the bursary to help facilitate this.
ACU Foundation is honoured to be running these events at each campus and delights in bringing donors and students together. It is always inspiring to be present and see donors, students, staff and alumni celebrate belief in each other and recognise achievement.
To inform your students of scholarships and bursaries please visit our scholarships and bursaries browser. Mid-year scholarship applications will open on 21 June and close on 7 August 2016.
Faculty prizes and awards are by staff nomination at the beginning of each year and are for the year prior.
