Renovations and refurbishments at Strathfield and North Sydney

A message from the Associate Vice-Chancellor NSW/ACT Professor Marea Nicholson: Strathfield and North Sydney Campuses are seeing major works transform various sections of our workplace in time for the beginning of the academic year.
At North Sydney, work is progressing on the Science lab renovations and the new cafeteria. Major refurbishment of three Science labs in the James Carroll Building has been completed over the summer break. The new spaces will provide 21st century learning and teaching environments for Science, Biology and Chemistry from Semester 1, 2017. This project marks the commencement of the staged refurbishment and upgrade of specialist learning spaces in the James Carroll Building.
On Strathfield Campus, a new main entry is about to be revealed. The Barker Rd entry driveway, and the construction of a new set-down area for the shuttle bus service, is underway. Once these works are complete, the Barker Rd entry will provide a safer and more efficient means of entry into the campus for all vehicles. These works will improve the amenity and access to the campus for all users of the shuttle bus service.
Over the last few weeks Strathfield staff have witnessed the movement of the heritage palms, a process that has involved a large crane lifting the trees out of their current positions and placing them in their new positions in order to form an avenue along the new pathway onto the campus.
The landscaping to the main courtyard, new entry driveway / roundabout and shuttle bus drop off point are on track for completion prior to Orientation week. The remaining works along the service road and loading dock are will be complete by the commencement of Semester 1.
Construction works on the cafes at North Sydney and Strathfield are on track for completion prior to International Orientation week. The refurbished spaces will provide greater amenity for students and staff, and will tie in with the new and improved food and beverage offer at each campus.
It is hoped that these improvements will add to the overall wellbeing of staff and students as we begin 2017.
