Recycled PET bottles used in I Block refurbishment

Brisbane Campus’s I Block is set to be refurbished to improve its appearance and offer better conditions for students and staff.

The design includes the use of skylights, which will limit the demand for artificial lighting in the common areas. The glass is also specially treated to reduce heat.

Sustainability was a key factor in renovations and sustainable timber was sourced from local supplies.

In another sustainable initiative, panelling made from recycled PET bottles is being used.

The EchoPanels have the appearance of fabric panels, but are made from recycled and recyclable plastics. About 60 per cent of the material in each panel is sourced from recycled bottles.

The process to manufacture them produces zero-waste, and they can be easily recycled at the end of their product-life.

The carpets are also eco-friendly and will be supplied by InterFace Carpets, one of the most sustainable carpets available in the world.

InterFace Carpets are 100 per cent recyclable, and manufactured with the minimum of waste.
