Thinking about applying for Academic Promotion?
Academic staff members who wish to apply for promotion and their supervisors are encouraged to attend a workshop in April that will guide them through the promotions process, including changes arising from the annual promotions review. Additional seminars that focus on evidencing the case for promotion are also available for applicants.
Information for applicants
Academic Staff members considering applying for promotion are encouraged to participate in an upcoming Preparing for Academic Promotions Workshop.
These face-to-face workshops have been well received by previous participants, and include:
- An overview of the promotions process
- A presentation by a recent successful applicant that covers how they planned and prepared for promotion
- Guidance from the Chair and an experienced member of the Academic Promotions Committee about the Committee’s expectations of applications
- A question and answer session with the panel of presenters

Guidance on Providing Evidence
Video conference seminars are available to help applicants for promotion understand how to effectively present evidence of their research and their scholarship of teaching. These seminars will be presented by Professor Kevin Ashford-Rowe, Director, Learning and Teaching Centre and Professor Patrick Heaven, Dean of Research.

Information for Supervisors
Supervisors of Academic Staff are encouraged to attend a Preparing for Academic Promotions for Academic Supervisors Workshop. These are highly interactive and specifically tailored for academic supervisors to give guidance on the expectations of the Promotions Committee, and on effectively supporting staff who are considering applying for promotion.
The workshop will include:
- An overview of the promotions process
- Presentations by the Chair and a member of the Academic Promotions Committee
- A question and answer session with the panel of presenters
