Pope Francis conference postponed

Published: Monday 23rd June 2014

The Pope Francis conference scheduled for July this year on the Melbourne campus has now been postponed to a date early in 2015.

The reason for this decision arose because recently the Broken Bay Institute (BBI) held an e-conference entitled 'Pope Francis: Modelling the Ministry of St Peter'. More than 50,000 people from Australia and overseas participated in this conference.

After consulting widely, the ACU conference organising committee decided that it would be better to re-schedule the ACU conference until next year rather than hold another Pope Francis event so close to the Broken Bay event. The ACU conference will be re-scheduled to mark the end of the second year of Pope Franci's pontificate.

The conference organising committee will work with our partner organisations to continue to focus  attention upon the message of Pope Francis for the world. The wide appeal of the BBI conference is evidence of how Pope Francis has engaged the minds, hearts and imaginations of people within and beyond the Catholic Church.
