Online resource for academics new to teaching at ACU
Published: Wednesday 30th August 2017
The Learning and Teaching Centre is pleased to launch a resource to support those academics at ACU who are new to teaching. The Introduction to Learning and Teaching (ILAT) self-guided resource is available via the ACU Learning and Teaching webpages.
This resource was developed in consultation with colleagues who provided feedback about the types of information that academic teachers new to ACU needed to succeed in their teaching roles. This feedback has now informed the development of a resource that will be available to access at any time.
Who should benefit from this resource?
Academics new or returning to teaching at ACU will find this a useful tool to find information and support services for their teaching roles.
What is included?
This resource is an information package and provides links to relevant information on learning and teaching policies and the Teaching Criteria and Standards Framework as well as professional development opportunities at ACU. The resource is divided into three key areas:
1. Exploring your role as a teaching academic or leading teaching academic; 2. Providing a dual track enabling academics new or experienced and new to ACU to choose the pathway that suits their situation; and finally 3. Preparation for Teaching: is a section on preparing for classes before you commence, at the start of the teaching period, during teaching and at the end.
Each section contains frequently asked questions and links to appropriate support on the ACU web site that will help new academics self-select the information they need. It may be accessed via the ACU Learning and Teaching webpages under the Professional Development tab.
