Looking for a volunteering opportunity?

If you are looking for a volunteering opportunity to help people in need this winter, consider joining Foodbank NSW & ACT on one of their upcoming packing days this month.

Volunteers work together to assemble food packages to distribute to people in crisis throughout NSW and ACT. Last year, Foodbank distributed 6.6 million meals to NSW charities which assisted in feeding over 50,000 families every week.

ACU Senior HR Officer Adrianna Mortier shares her experience of volunteering with Foodbank at the Glendenning depot last week. “I found the experience very rewarding. Foodbank has been inundated with demand for emergency food relief,” Adrianna said. “My husband and I had registered with Foodbank sometime back and received an email calling for volunteers over several days in August. We worked with four others and helped pack approximately three tonnes of potatoes and half a tonne of onions.”

Over 100 companies participate via Corporate Volunteer teams at the Foodbank distribution centre, which services over 560 food relief organisations in NSW. “One of the people I worked with told me that he had originally come with his company as part of a team-building exercise.  He now comes with his wife once a month to help out,” Adrianna said.
Volunteers help with a number of activities including:
  • Sorting of mixed food and grocery items
  • Packing of Emergency Packs
  • Packing of Country Orders
  • Assisting in stocking shelves
