The 4th ACU Learning and Teaching Conference was held at the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport Hotel on15 July 2016. The theme of this year’s conference was Teaching Excellence: Learning for Life, and built on the 2014 conference at which the ACU Learning for Life program was officially launched. The keynote address was given by Professor Gregor Kennedy, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Educational Innovation), University of Melbourne. Professor Kennedy motivated staff to adopt, interact and engage more fully with the power of digital learning environments, while emphasising the importance of designing effective and authentic e-learning experiences to engage students. Links to the conference videos and session slides can be found on the Learning and Teaching website.
Approximately 220 ACU staff participated in the day and explored the ways in which technology-enhanced learning is used to enrich the student learning experience and outcomes. Hands-on opportunities allowed staff to engage directly with educational technologies designed and used by ACU staff.
The conference also allowed staff to reflect upon how we have enhanced and enriched our curriculum and practice to support excellence in learning and teaching at ACU. The Conference provided the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the ongoing ACU Learning for Life initiatives.
Throughout the day, the ACU Learning for Life Project Showcase attracted a significant number of attention from attendees. The showcased projects included tools such as the LEO Selector Tool and the Lecture Capture Recording where visitors were able to test them and provide instant feedback to the educational designers facilitating the showcase.
In addition to promoting the tools and resources in development as part of Learning for Life, the Conference provided a unique opportunity to strengthen the Learning and Teaching Centre’s engagement with the academic community from across faculties and campuses.
We also invite you to listen to Professor Kevin Ashford-Rowe, Director of Learning and Teaching Centre and Learning for Life Program Director speak about this exciting program of work.
