Jersey Day raises awareness for Organ and Tissue Donation
Published: Monday 7th September 2015
Friday 4 September marked the inaugural Jersey Day to raise awareness of Organ and Tissue Donation. Staff across Student Administration, Information Technology and Marketing and External Relations were quick to lend their support to the worthy initiative.
The Jersey Day campaign simply aims to raise awareness of the DONATELIFE network and to allow families and friends to begin a conversation about organ donation. The campaign was inspired by the story of Nathan Gremmo who tragically lost his life in an accident in May. Nathan’s family chose to give the gift of life to others to honour the legacy of Nathan’s Generous personality.
Our own ACU student, Michelle Seccull, tragically lost her 3 year old son, Ethan, a few years ago. Following a heartbreaking accident, Michelle and her husband made the selfless decision to switch off their precious son’s life support and agreed to donate his organs. Ethan saved three lives. Michelle was awarded ACU’s Sophia Scholarship in 2013 to support her work towards raising awareness for DonateLife which she continues to do.
