It’s a wrap: OT student annual on-site simulated clinical placement
Published: Monday 16th October 2017
During mid-semester break the ACU North Sydney precinct hosted the annual Vocational Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy student simulated placement. Champagnat House was transformed into a ‘Health Enhance’ enterprise, creating real world scenarios complete with injured workers, worksites, managers, doctors and allied health.
Developed as part of a National Randomised Control trial, the week long simulated placement provides second year students in North Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne with opportunity to experience OT roles in the specialised field of vocational rehabilitation within a safe and structured setting.
Many staff and industry partners helped make this a great success for our 95 students on the North Sydney Campus. The students reported great opportunities for translating theory into practice as they interviewed injured workers and key stakeholders.
In small groups, they attended a range of worksites to assess physical, cognitive and psycho-social demands of injured workers’ usual duties, identify potential suitable duties and design durable return to work plans for their worker.
A big thank you from the Occupational Therapy academic team and the second year OT student cohort of 2017 to Facilities Management, Library Services, Simulation Services and our contract cleaning team for your generous and enthusiastic assistance.
