Informal seminar with Jose Casanova

IRPS invites Hons, Ph.D. students and early career researchers for a workshop session with Prof. Casanova

José Casanova is one of the world’s top scholars in the sociology of religion. Awarded the Theology Prize from the Salzburger Hochschulwochen in recognition of life-long achievement in the field of theology, he is professor of Sociology at Georgetown University and heads the Berkley Center’s Program on Globalization, Religion and the Secular. He has published works on a broad range of subjects, including religion and globalization, migration and religious pluralism, transnational religions and sociological theory. His Public Religions in the Modern World (1994) – translated into five languages including Arabic and Indonesian – has become a classic in the field.

When: 9 June (Tuesday) 2015 from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
Where: ISJ, Tennyson Woods House, North Sydney

The workshop will begin with an introduction by Professor Casanova on his paper “From Modernization to Secularization to Globalization: An Autobiographical Self-Reflection”.
