A long-planned project to physically join two Victorian terraces on Ballarat Campus into a single, new facility was recently completed with staff moving into the new facility at the end of July.
The Properties and Facilities Directorate used a striking design to combine the two Victorian cottages, which will be used by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy.
The facility includes reception, twenty individual offices, a meeting room and two informal meeting spaces, video conference facilities and a kitchen and other staff amenities. The design of the building has also improved access to the campus’s car park.
The project required the relocation of two cottages from their original street location to a site 40 meters away, a difficult logistic and technical task that ACU undertook because of its commitment to uphold the heritage values of the street.
That commitment also included major work on the facades and roofs of the cottages which has restored the cottages original features and further improved the street-side visual amenity.
