Dreaming of a Green Christmas

The University shut-down is a fantastic time to cut University energy consumption. Our Facilities Management teams will minimise the energy consumption of our buildings’ major equipment, but you can do your bit to help, too.

The easiest way to help is to turn off lights and shut down office equipment, perhaps by sharing responsibilities among like-minded colleagues. The checklist below is a good prompt:

Switch off and save:

  • Shut down your PC and switch off the screen
  • Empty and unplug the refrigerator (remember to keep the door ajar)
  • Turn off lights in offices, bathrooms, kitchens, meeting rooms, and open-plan areas – but make sure you leave on any lights essential for safety, such as lights in stairwells and corridors
  • Turn off any stand-alone air-conditioners. If you can’t reach the controls on the unit, place a service-desk request for Facilities Management to turn it off
