Deputy Head of School Education (Melbourne) Dr Matthew Zbaracki has received an Educational Publishing Award for his book Writing Right with Text Types.

The Educational Publishing Awards Australia 2016 ceremony was held on 6 October and Dr Zbaracki was announced the winner of the Tertiary (Wholly Australian) Student Resource category.

Dr Zbaracki’s book, Writing Right with Text Types, was published last year and helps current and future teachers inspire young writers in exciting and engaging ways by bringing theory to life through numerous teaching ideas and case studies.

“I’m honored to have won such an award.  It’s nice to have all the hard work recognized, and I’m very pleased the judges acknowledged what a strong resource the book can be for teachers and future teachers,” Dr Zbaracki said.

Judges commented that Dr Zbaracki’s book “provides pre-service teachers with guidance on innovative and engaging teaching ideas and classroom strategies”.

“A discrete chapter highlights the importance of grammar in successful written texts, underscoring the potential need to upskill undergraduate teachers in this.”

“The author’s passion for the subject shines through and should provide a powerful influence on readers. The publication is especially important given current literacy issues prevalent in Australia,” the judges said.
