Australian Catholic University (ACU) is proud to be an official Event Partner of the 2017 Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF), which is being held in Sydney from 7 to 9 December.
Some 20,000 young people, ranging in age from 15 to 30, will gather in Sydney for the event, travelling from all over Australia – every capital city and every major rural centre.
The theme for the festival, drawn from Pope Francis’ address to young people at World Youth Day in Krakow last year, is “Open new horizons for spreading joy”.
Gathering at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park and in The Domain, young people will come together to share their mission and vision at addresses and workshops, explore social justice issues, youth ministry and leadership opportunities and listen to lots of live music.
Genna Radnan, ACU alumna, CEO and Founder of Gennarosity Abroad, will speak at the Festival Leadership Forum alongside key business, community and sporting leaders. This forum is aimed at encouraging and energizing attendees with discussions on how they can be successful and offer great examples of leadership.
ACU Pro-Vice Chancellor Assisting the Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Hayden Ramsay, Director of the ACU Centre for Liturgy Professor Clare Johnson and ACU’s School of Theology’s Dr Maeve Heaney will share their perspectives on faith during workshops throughout the festival.
On the final day there will be a pilgrimage across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to St Mary’s Cathedral and The Domain where a massive outdoor Mass will be celebrated with all Sydneysiders invited to attend. This event will also officially launch the global Year of Youth in 2018.
The Charles Moses Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park will be known as the ACU Entertainment Zone and members of our Campus Ministry team and Student Ambassadors will be sharing their university experience. You will also see our fantastic new logo on the vests of 500 event volunteers.
The ACYF was established by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference to provide young people with opportunities to connect, to deepen their relationship with Jesus, be empowered to be disciples in the world today and encounter and celebrate the vitality of the Church in Australia.
