Staff on Melbourne, Canberra and Strathfield campuses are invited to nominate themselves for a vacant Health and Safety Representative (HSR) position on their campus.
As a HSR you would advocate for the interests of a defined workgroup on your campus, and participate in consultation about health and safety issues.
As a representative of staff, you would make a significant contribution towards improving health and safety outcomes at ACU, including involvement in reviews of related policies, procedures and guidelines which impact upon your work group. HSRs liaise with a variety of people about safety issues, may participate in incident investigations, and consult with their local Work, Health and Safety (WHS) Committee and the broader University. WHS Committee Members are also encouraged to apply for a HSR position. In rare circumstances, HSRs may use their legal power to ‘stop’ unsafe work practices.
You do not need any experience or special qualifications to become a HSR. HSRs attend a five-day training course to strengthen their understanding of the role and their capacity to make a difference through keeping our community safe and well. The representative will also improve their knowledge about the WHS tools that are available at ACU to assist with maintaining a safe environment.
HSR roles are currently vacant for the following workgroups:
Faculty of Law and Business/Faculty of Theology
Professional Services (250, 232 and 174 Victoria Parade)
Barker Road buildings
To nominate, please return the Expression of Interest form to the relevant member of the WHS team. The below contacts can also assist you with further information about the role.
