Guest speaker Professor Elizabeth Wood (University of Sheffield, United Kingdom) will report on the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in the UK, which reported on the quality of research in the period 2008-2014. Seminar at 1pm, Tuesday 19 May.
Seminar will outline the criteria for evaluating the quality of research outputs, the new Impact Case Studies that were introduced during this REF period, and the evaluation and reporting processes.
Will focus on the implications of the outcomes for Education departments in terms of the overall quality of research, the balance for those institutions that incorporate teacher education. In conclusion, will look at some critical responses to the REF in terms of its influence on research cultures and practices, the challenges of tracking research impact over time, and the strategic implications.
