ACU Professor, Tracey McDonald, joint ACU/RSL Life Care Chair of Ageing, has recently been appointed to the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing.
The NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing (MACA) is the official advisory body to the NSW Government on matters of interest to older people.
The committee provides advice to government, conducts consultations and seminars and publishes discussion papers on ageing issues. In particular, the MACA advises the Minister for Ageing, the Hon John Ajaka, on matters affecting the needs, interests and wellbeing of older people in NSW and on the impact of the ageing population.
The committee currently has 13 members, recommended by the Minister on the basis of their expertise and experience. Members are generally appointed for a period of three years, but these terms may be extended another year. Policy advice and administrative support are provided by Secretariat staff based in the Office for Ageing, Department of Family and Community Services NSW.
The purpose of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing is to support the Minister for Ageing in achieving healthy and productive ageing for the people of NSW, consistent with the NSW whole of government ageing strategy.
