ACU has been selected as a regional finalist in the North East Sydney Business Awards for excellence in sustainability.
The awards are an initiative of the NSW Chamber of Business and celebrate business excellence in NSW. If ACU is successful in winning the regional award it will qualify for the Chamber’s State awards later this year.
ACU won selection in the regional awards because of its successful and ongoing programs to reduce the environmental impact of its operations Australia-wide. These programs include the construction of sustainable buildings such as The Daniel Mannix Building and the John Paul II Building, day-to-day management of buildings to reduce energy and water consumption and facilities contracts that include measures to cut energy waste, increase the use of safe cleaning chemicals and obtain paper from sustainable sources, among others.
Those measures have enabled ACU to substantially exceed Australian university benchmarks on greenhouse emissions, water conservation and energy efficiency in particular.
The winners of the awards will be announced on Thursday 28 July 2016.
