ACU 25th anniversary celebratory event: Hildegard of Bingen and The Living Light

Published: Wednesday 4th March 2015

As part of the University’s program of 25th anniversary events, each ACU campus will host a performance by international mezzo soprano, Linn Maxwell, who embodies the extraordinary life of 12th Century German prophetess, healer and composer Hildegard of Bingen. Way ahead of her time and in a male-dominated world, Hildegard challenged the established authority of the Church, both philosophically and musically. She was canonised in 2012 and named a Doctor of the Church.

The performances will take place in late April and early May. In the one-woman show, Linn Maxwell will accompany herself on authentic medieval instruments, including psaltery, organistrum and harp. She will perform seven of Hildegard's original songs, and through the mystic's actual letters and writings, transport the audience to the turbulent times of the Crusades in Western Europe. Hildegard's timeless universal message of spiritual truth, holistic healing and caring for the earth is more relevant today than ever and I encourage you all to come along and enjoy these free evening performances on your respective campuses.

Light refreshments will be served after the performances.

Please register your attendance via the ACU website and also explore the extensive calendar of other 25th anniversary events.

With every good wish,

Professor Anne Cummins
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Learning and Teaching)
