A message from the Ballarat Campus Dean, Professor Bridget Aitchison:
Last week, both the Aquinas and St Patrick’s campuses held their staff Christmas events.
Ballarat Campus Dean, Prof Bridget Aitchison, hosted both events while Dr John Ballard, AVC for Victoria, was on leave.
Both campuses had strong attendances at their Masses with Bishop Paul Bird saying mass at Aquinas and Bishop Mark Edwards officiating at St Patrick’s. Bishop Mark prefaced mass with heartfelt remarks around the release that day of the Royal Commission’s Report into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The Ballarat events were held on Wednesday, 13 December and were attended by 80 faculty and staff. St Patrick’s Mass and lunch was held on Friday, 15 December with 400 in attendance including the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Greg Craven, and the Vice President, Father Anthony Casamento.
While there were differences in scale, food and decorations, what both campuses had in common were the strong sense of community among faculty and staff. It brought home the point that working at ACU is much more than merely a job – it is a place where what we do matters and who we are matters. There is a sense of belonging, a sense of purpose, and a sense of being family on both campuses. How appropriate to recognise that at this time of year.
Dr Ballard sent his greeting which was read at the St Patrick’s lunch expressing his deep appreciation for how hard each person had worked this year and commending faculty and staff on their outstanding commitment to our students, colleagues and the University.
Professor Aitchison expressed her gratefulness to the Ballarat staff and faculty for their warm welcome to the Aquinas Campus over the previous six months and for all that they do for the students and for the community. Many thanks are due to all who worked so hard to make these two events such a special day.
From Dr Ballard and Professor Aitchison – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
