I know you will join with me in congratulating Dr Michael Cole, School of Exercise Science, who has been appointed to the National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC’s) Postdoctoral Reference Group.
This Reference Group is being established to provide a forum for early to mid-career researchers to interact with and advise NHMRC. The aim of this group is to provide feedback on issues of relevance to those crucial post-PhD years in researchers’ careers, to better inform the deliberations of the Research Committee. This will include issues connected with Early Career Fellowships and Career Development Fellowships and will encompass issues applying to all funding schemes and other matters that may affect developing researchers.
Dr Cole's appointment to the Reference Group reflects his high professional standing and is well-deserved. It also is consistent with the increasing ingress of ACU and ACU personnel into the realms of policy and decision-making for research in Australia, and I congratulate Dr Cole for this outstanding appointment.
