Service Desk Advisory – Email Security
A recent increase in the volume of malicious emails being sent to ACU staff highlights the need for staff to exercise caution when using their email accounts. A few simple rules to remember are:
- You should never give your account password to anyone, only you should know your password. Treat your password like you would the PIN number for your bank account.
- The Service Desk (or ‘Helpdesk’ or ‘System Administrator’) will never send you an email requesting you to supply your password.
- Treat all emails as potentially suspicious if they request you to provide personal information or click on a link, even if the email appears to come from someone you know.
If you do receive an email that you are not sure about, please do not follow any instructions contained in the email, contact the Service Desk first.
