There are occasions in which you may want to make an activity or resource in your LEO unit available only to a particular student or group of students. For this you are able to use the Add restriction function for Groups or Groupings. You are able to make an activity or resource available only to the assigned members of a group.
Note: These instructions assume that you have already created your group(s) and have added your users as appropriate.
To restrict access to an activity or resource to members of a group you need to:
Click 'Turn editing on'.
Add the activity or resource to your LEO unit by clicking on 'Add an activity or resource'. You will be able to restrict access to your activity or resource from the settings page. Alternatively you can click on the 'Edit' icon to the right of the title of your activity or resourve, and click on 'Edit settings'.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page of the page and locate the 'Restrict access' heading. Click on the heading to expand the section.
Click on 'Add restriction'.
Choose how you would like to restrict access to your activity based on a number of parameters including Activity Completion, Date, Grade, Group, Grouping, User profile or Restriction set. Click on the 'Group' button:
Set the group restriction options that appear:
From the first dropdown box, choose if the student 'must' or 'must not' be part of the Group to access the activity or resource.
From the second dropdown box select the Group that you want to apply the access restriction to.
The 'eye' icon to the left of the 'Group' dropdown options controls whether the activity or resource is visible to those who do not have access to it. If the eye icon is open (as in the image above), this means that if a user does not meet the conditions you have set, they will still be able to see the activity/resource, but they will not be able to click on it. You can click on the eye icon it will change to an eye with a strike through it, which means that the link to the activity or resource will be completely invisible to users who do not meet the conditions you've set.
Click 'Save and return to unit' when you are done.
You can add additional restrictions to an activity or resource by clicking the 'Add restriction' button again and setting a new set of conditions for the activity.
You can easily remove a restriction by clicking the 'cross' icon to the right of the second dropdown box, which will remove the condition completely. Remember to 'Save' your changes when adding or removing restrictions.
Using Groups in your unit
You are able to filter the results in your Gradebook using Groups. This will allow you to view the grades of one group of students at a time. This is particularly useful if you are managing a unit with a large number of students. To do this you need to have groups enabled at the unit level.
