In this section we look at how to use a grading worksheet to provide feedback to your students:

What is a grading worksheet

A grading worksheet is a method you can use to grade and provide feedback on your students assignments while you are offline.

A grading worksheet is a .CSV file which you download from the LEO environment. You are able to enter grades and feedback directly into the spreadsheet while working offline, which you then can save to your desktop and reupload into the LEO environment.

The feedback and grades you entered into the grading worksheet will then be entered into the LEO gradebook for your students to access.

Working with a grading worksheet is a three step process. You need to:

  1. Download the grading worksheet from the LEO environment.
  2. Enter your grades and feedback into the spreadsheet and save it to your desktop and device.
  3. Reupload the grading worksheet into the LEO environment.

To download the grading worksheet from the LEO environment you need to:

  1. Click on the link to your Assignment activity from within your LEO unit (Note: you do not need to have editing turned on to perform this function).
  2. Click on 'View/grade all submissions'.
  3. From the dropdown menu under 'Grading action' select 'Download grading worksheet'. Save the file in an appropriate location on your desktop or device.
  4. You are now able to enter your grades into the 'Grade' column, and your feedback into the 'Feedback comments' column. Save the file.

To reupload the grading worksheet into the LEO environment you need to:

  1. Click on the link to your Assignment activity from within your LEO unit (Note: you do not need to have editing turned on to perform this function).
  2. Click on 'View/grade all submissions'.
  3. From the dropdown menu under 'Grading action' select 'Upload grading worksheet'.
  4. In the next screen either click on 'Choose a file' and locate the grading worksheet on your desktop or device, or 'drag and drop' the file into the field.
  5. Select whether you want to allow other markers to change the grades after the grading worksheet has been uploaded. If you want to allow other markers to change/update the grades click the checkbox next to 'Allow updating records' that have been modified more recently in your LEO unit than in the spreadsheet.
  6. Click 'Upload grading worksheet'. You will be asked to confirm the changes you are making to grades within the Assignment activity. Click on 'Confirm', then click on 'Continue'.
  7. You will be taken to the Assignment grading screen. The grades and feedback you have entered will now be visible in the 'Grade' column.

If you are not able to download the grading worksheet, it will be because you have not enabled this in the settings of your Assignment activity.

To enable the use of the grading worksheet in your Assignment activity you need to:

  1. Click on 'Turn editing on'.
  2. Click on the 'Edit' dropdown to the right of the title of your Asisgnment activity then select 'Edit settings'.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Feedback types' heading and click on it to expand the section.
  4. Ensure there is a checkmark next to 'Offline grading worksheet'.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'Save and return to unit'.

You will now be able to download and upload a grading worksheet into your Assignment activity.
