Australian Catholic University (ACU) shares with universities worldwide a commitment to high-quality learning and teaching, research and community engagement. ACU is aware that a key factor in its reputation as a higher education institution is its capacity to excel in learning and teaching and to produce quality graduates. As part of its Mission, the University declares its commitment to the importance of learning and teaching and to building a specialised research environment.
Policy compliance at ACU: learning and teaching
ACU endorses and complies with the rigorous auditing and accreditation procedures of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).
The AQF is the national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training. It incorporates the qualifications from each education and training sector into a single comprehensive national qualifications framework.
TEQSA is Australia's regulatory and quality agency for higher education. TEQSA's chief purpose is to ensure that students receive a high quality education at any Australian higher education provider. Under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011, a higher education provider must be registered by TEQSA in order to operate as a higher education provider in Australia.

Learning and Teaching policy and procedures
The Learning and Teaching Centre is involved with strategic and operational planning and coordination within ACU. This occurs largely through participation in committees, working parties and strategic projects, including coordination of the Learning for Life Framework (2014-17). Participation in these committees and projects is fed into the creation, review and implementation of policies and procedures that inform good learning and teaching practices.
ACU's strong commitment to learning and teaching is exemplified in two of the ACU 2020 targets that are part of our Strategic Plan 2015-2020:
- By 2020, our aim is for ACU to be recognised as:
- Delivering quality programs with an innovative and distinctive learning and teaching experience within the Catholic intellectual tradition.
- Achieving excellent student satisfaction and graduate outcomes

The policies related to learning and teaching currently in operation are listed in the policy pages.
Learning and teaching policies under review and development
- A new principles-based learning and teaching policy is currently under development.
- The cultural diversity policy, which is also currently under review, has a learning and teaching component.
The following resources give strategies for implementing external policy guidelines and frameworks determined by the Australian Quality Framework (AQF) and Tertiary Education and Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA). They include papers and resources that have been developed by Australian Catholic University as well as from external institutions and organisations.
Higher Education Standards Framework (ACU) (Office of Planning and Strategic Management)
The diagrams show the Higher Education Standards including the established Threshold Standards and associated criteria. While the Research Standards are being established, ACU will adopt the best practice criteria from the NHMRC/ARC Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
In October 2015, a revised version of the Framework was tabled in Parliament. This version, the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2015, will take effect from 1 January 2017.
TEQSA Regulatory Risk Framework
TEQSA is required by legislation to reflect the principle of risk in taking regulatory action. This Regulatory Risk Framework details TEQSA's regulatory risk management policy and processes to give effect to that principle.
Teaching and Learning Standards: Issues and options paper February 2012
The primary aim of the issues and options paper is to contribute to sector-level discussion of issues and options relating to teaching and learning standards. It maps key elements in the national quality and standards landscape.
