Familiar Terrain Art Exhibition
Familiar Terrain Art Exhibition
ACU graduate Rod Holdaway is exhibiting his artwork in Sydney over the next few weeks.
The experienced artist creates images of suburban life which encapsulate the ambience of city living.
His images of physical landscapes evoke mutable emotions, suggesting a universal register of human feeling that underpins our sense of place.
“I record and construct imaginative form from what I see around me,” he said.
“As I see it, the built environment is a perfect analogue for the human psyche; our aspirations, ambitions, ideals, our personalities, passions, egos, hubris, humility, quirks, fears and obsessions.”
Rod studied painting and sculpture at the Adelaide School of Advanced Education, philosophy and linear perspective in Italian Renaissance art at Deakin University as well as printing and photography at TAFE.
He graduated from ACU's Bachelor of Education in 1995.
Rod has exhibited in several solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions, including three years consecutively in the Dobell Prize for Drawing. In 2010 he was a finalist in the Kedumba Drawing Award and previously his work has been selected for the Redlands Westpac, Mosman and Waverly Art Prizes. His work is represented in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Ireland.
